Pet Digital Imaging

When your pet is sick or injured, PetCentre Animal Hospital clearly identifies the symptoms with veterinary radiology and comprehensive pet imaging services, including digital pet X-rays, dog ultrasound, and cat ultrasound, all performed in-house.

What Is Pet Digital Imaging?

Pet digital imaging refers to the use of imaging technology to evaluate the internal structures of your pet’s body. This imaging allows us to assess bones, organs, tissues, and body systems without invasive procedures.
At PetCentre, our imaging services include:

  • Digital pet X-rays
  • Abdominal ultrasound
  • Cardiac-focused imaging (when indicated)
  • Dental radiographs

Our modern diagnostic tools allow us to see beneath the surface—identifying fractures, organ abnormalities, tumors, obstructions, and internal disease quickly and accurately. Because imaging is performed onsite, we can interpret results quickly and begin treatment without unnecessary delays.

What Can Pet X-Rays Detect?

Digital pet X-rays are often the fi rst step in evaluating injury or illness. They help diagnose:

  • Bone fractures and joint injuries
  • Hip dysplasia and arthritis
  • Lung disease or pneumonia
  • Heart enlargement
  • Gastrointestinal blockages
  • Bladder stones
  • Tumors or abnormal masses

During surgical planning, clear imaging reduces procedural risk and improves outcomes. Visit our Veterinary Surgery page to learn how we integrate diagnostics into surgical safety protocols.

If your pet has been injured or is experiencing acute symptoms, visit our Pet Urgent and Emergency Care page to understand when immediate imaging is necessary.

When Is an Ultrasound Recommended?

While X-rays are excellent for evaluating bones and certain organ outlines, vet ultrasound provides detailed images of soft tissues and internal organ structure.

We use dog ultrasound and cat ultrasound to evaluate:

  • Liver and kidney abnormalities
  • Pancreatitis
  • Abdominal fluid
  • Spleen conditions
  • Bladder issues
  • Pregnancy confirmation
  • Masses or internal growths
  • Heart function (case dependent)

Ultrasound allows us to see organ texture, blood flow, and tissue changes that X-rays may not fully reveal. If laboratory testing suggests organ dysfunction, our Pet Laboratory Testing services work hand-in-hand with imaging to confirm a diagnosis.
